Unmarked police vehicle (F-150)?

I was stopped in the Albuquerque area by an unmarked police F-150 (late model) which was fully lit with red/blue, and had a metal toolbox in the bed. The officer was dressed in plain cloths (sport jacket, jeans), and I saw a badge by his pocket. He also checked my license, registration, and insurance. I am wondering what kind of policeman this was?
Yeah I was stopped for reckless, and I was too nervous to care to ask what department he was from so as to avoid somehow antagonizing the already p/o’ed cop.

In Connecticut, the DEP uses unmarked F-150′s and Explorers. Just seeing a badge is not enough, you should have asked for identification, especially if he was plain-clothed. Many higher ranking officers work daily in plain clothes but they can still pull you over.

Their fathers, some with new haircuts, would be gathered in the bars and cafes to discuss the business they had discussed last Saturday and the Saturday before that, while their wives shopped, careful to avoid the stares of the young men in Levi’s and floral cowboy shirts who lounged on the corners or sat on car hoods, talking about girls and cars. The girls touched their hair.”
This is based on the book Winter in the Blood by James Welch. The nameless protagonist is a Native American who is alienated from his own state of mind and Native American heritage.

with the definition of “diction” literally meaning “verbal descripton; esp. with regard to effectiveness” — you could probably describe this in terms of how he has painted a visual image in the reader’s mind by his word choices and aesthetically pleasing word choices. For example, “careful to avoid the stares of the young men in Levi’s and floral cowboy shirts who lounged on the corners or sat on car hoods…” Doesn’t that just paint a picutre? You can actually see what the autor is writing about through the diction he uses.
