Why do my tux measurements differ from my jeans size?
So i just recently got myself measured for a tux and my waist comes out to about 38”. However, my jeans are a size 32″ and they fit just fine. Why is there such a huge difference? I measured myself and I actually do measure about 38″ but I’ve worn size 32-34 jeans almost my whole life.
I should probably note that I’m referring to the dress pants that come with the tux. sorry.
Because suits and tuxes are sized according to chest size…thus pants have 6 to 7 inch drops…so basically a size 40 suit jacket/tux equates to a size 34 or 33 waist.

Now, it seems that no wardrobe is complete without an entire set of jeans – ranging from those to simply throw on and relax in, to dressier jeans that are ideal for any night out. Indeed, jeans complement all styles and activities so it’s no wonder they’re one of the most worn items of clothing in the world.
Yet, like many items of clothing in the world of fashion, jeans have come a long way over the years – in terms of both style and culture.
For instance, jeans were originally designed for labourers, factory workers, and sailors during the 19th century, originating independently in France, India, and later in Italy. However, almost a century later, in the 1950s, jeans took on immense popularity with teenagers – turning the item of clothing into a casual must-have for young people.
At around the same time, many movie stars began to popularise jeans even more by wearing them in movies – one example being James Dean, who wore jeans in ‘Rebel Without A Cause’. Thus, jeans became somewhat of a symbol of rebellion during the 1950s, simultaneously attracting and repelling consumers for this very reason.
However, jeans only became more popular with time, turning into a general fashion item by the 1970s. This was also around the time that the denim stone washing technique became popular, meaning there was a denim “wash” for everyone – regardless of age or style.
Variations of denim didn’t end there. Jeans suddenly took on a slimmer fit; replacing the common loose fit of their original design – a trend that would reverse on itself multiple times over the years. Consumers could ultimately choose from slim-fitting jeans with flared or “boot-cut” bottoms, baggy jeans, straight leg jeans, and “skinny” jeans – among numerous other denim styles.
Of course, with the growing popularity of jeans, many clothing manufacturers began to develop their own distinctive variations of denim, giving consumers many denim options to choose from.
What’s more, many of these brands, for instance, Wrangler, Lucky, Lee and Levis, ultimately emerged as historic names in the world of denim, and continue to lead the industry with both classic and innovative denim designs today – implying it’s one item of clothing that’s bound to stick around for awhile.

I just bought a pair of Silver jeans last month and love THEM! I want to order more through Maurices because I have an online code and gift card (and because I live so far from the store).
I’m slowly understanding the size chart. But I’m struggling with the cuts.
I’m in between the regular sizes and the plus sizes which also make it difficult. I normally wear about a size 14. However, I’m short and would like to have a shorter length. I have wide hips and troublesome thighs and HATE jeans that are so low cut that I feel like I have to cover my back before I bend over or sit down.
Anyone have any suggestions for some higher rised Silver jeans that are nice to hips and thighs?
